Teaching Networks, Hardware and Cybersecurity in Computer Science, Grades 1-12: Resources by Grade

How devices connect, how information travels, and how it is kept safe make up the systems side of computer science. This page collects every Sooner Standards resource on networks, hardware and software, and cybersecurity, organized by grade, with Oklahoma OAS-CS and Texas TEKS editions marked.

The Skills These Resources Build

  • Connecting devices: how devices link up and share, starting in Grade 1.
  • How information travels: how data moves across a network and between systems.
  • Hardware and software: choosing the right computing system and how its parts work together.
  • Cybersecurity: protecting information, from strategies in Grade 5 to encryption and network diagnosis in later grades.

How the Skills Progress

Grades 1 and 2 start with connecting devices. Grades 3 and 4 follow how information flows and travels, and Grade 3 adds operating systems and choosing the right computing system. Grade 5 adds networks and cybersecurity strategies. Grades 7 and 8 cover encryption, cybersecurity and hardware-software integration, and high school ends with diagnosing the network.

Which Edition to Use

The Oklahoma editions follow the OAS-CS standards. The Texas editions follow the TEKS for each grade, and the high school Texas units follow the Fundamentals of Computer Science course. If you teach in another state, either edition covers the skills; check the standard codes against your own before assigning.
