Stronger Children
“It is easier to build stronger children than to repair broken men.”
As we see the decline of the nuclear family, and the learning loss for our children, Frederick Douglas quote comes to mind. While it may be easier to build stronger children, we continue to see may variables against our youth.
These variables include demographic, health, cultural, socio-economic, and perceptual. For many youth, these variables and additional attacks stack against them. This and the inability for many parents to break cycles, allowing the youth to flourish, brings additional hardships.
Douglas does not apply a financial cost regarding broken men. He only mentions it being easier to raise the children stronger, rather than repairing the broken. Yet, today’s culture views all scenarios through the financial lens.
There are many programs emphasizing children’s needs. Through advocacy and protection, many are trying to build stronger children. On the flip side, other agencies have been formed to repair the broken. You would think as a society, we can provide the child a safe environment, to flourish.
What group or program are you aware of that emphasizes in building stronger children?
