Pressure Makes Diamonds

Pressure Makes Diamonds

Listening to a podcast the other day, the host commented many do not like to be under pressure. Statistics show this to be true. Many divert their time and energy on avoidance through entertainment or numb themselves with addictive behavior.

However, for the individual desiring to break through the pain, in order to excel, pressure is a necessity.

Three main methods are used to push yourself past the pain to attain your goals.

  • Target
    • Find an attainable target. This must be a specific, defined goal. No grey areas or platitudes allowed. Put a number on it.
  • Deadline
    • Make a specific date for the target to be completed. If you miss the date, redefine a more realistic attainable target and reset the date. Push to complete your target by this deadline.
  • Surround Yourself with a Support System
    • This system involves people that push, hold accountability, and reaching for the same target/goals. They are your cheerleaders and desire for you to succeed. This system also is your infrastructure setup to reduce friction, and help you attain your target and deadline.

Regardless of your overall project, life goal, whatever it may be, these three steps are essential. No project or goal is too large. Break the overwhelming goal into smaller attainable tasks and sub-tasks. Pick realistic targets, deadlines while having a support system to succeed.
