The count changes only once between kindergarten and Grade 8. Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 each have 19 standards. Grades 3 through 8 each have 22. The jump at Grade 3 comes from Impacts of Computing, which grows from 3 standards to 5, and from one more programming standard.

2. The growth is in a different place at Grade 6. Algorithms & Programming drops back from 9 standards to 8 at Grade 6, while Networks & Internet gains a third standard (the second cybersecurity standard, on secured websites and encryption).

3. Level 1 is broad. Level 2 is mostly programming. Level 1 has 28 standards spread across all five concepts. Level 2 has 27, and 16 of them (59 percent) are Algorithms & Programming. It includes topics such as artificial intelligence algorithms, recursion, data structures, and multi-platform development.

4. Each grade within a band repeats the same shape. Because grades K–2, 3–5, and 6–8 each carry the same count per concept, a teacher who knows one grade in a band knows how the others are laid out. What changes is the verb and the depth of the standard, not the number of strands to cover.

What to plan first

If you are building a year plan for one grade, start with these steps:

Pull the standards for your grade from the table above and the official document.

Group them by concept so each unit lines up with one or two standards.

Check the code-of-conduct and safety standards, which repeat across grade bands, so you know where to avoid doing the same lesson twice.

Compare your plan against the national CSTA framework if your district uses it.

Free tools and next reads

Oklahoma OAS to CSTA Crosswalk: every standard compared with the national CSTA standards, free PDF.

Digital Citizenship and Internet Safety in the Oklahoma Computer Science Standards (K–8): where that topic lives, grade by grade, with a printable chart.

Oklahoma, CSTA, and Texas side by side: for teachers who work across both states.

Ready-to-teach bundles by grade

Each bundle covers every Oklahoma computer science standard for that grade:

Grade 1 · Grade 2 · Grade 3 · Grade 4

Grade 5 · Grade 6 · Grade 7 · Grade 8

Level 1, Grades 9–10 (all 28 standards)

Level 2, Grades 11–12 (all 27 standards)

Which grade is the hardest to plan?
