Long John Silver is one of literature's great puzzles: is he a villain, a mentor, or both at once? One dinner-table question worth trying: ask your student who the most trustworthy adult in the novel actually is \u2014 Dr. Livesey, Squire Trelawney, Captain Smollett, or Long John Silver \u2014 and why. There's no clean answer, and that's the point.<\/p>\n
