The term is chimaera. By definition, a chimaera is an organism that contains at least two sets of DNA. Credit: Science Pictures ltd\/SPL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Japan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Japan received the OK to create human-animal hybrids. Japan&#8217;s stem-cell scientists will officially receive government support. Since March 2019, it was forbidden to grow animal embryos containing human cells beyond 14 days, or transplant such embryos into a surrogate uterus. That has changed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Hiromitsu Nakauchi, who leads teams at the University of Tokyo and Stanford University in California, plans to grow human cells in mouse and rat embryos and then transplant those embryos into surrogate animals.<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-019-02275-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Source<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This attempt to fuse human with animal cells has been going on for years, already. Nakauchi and colleagues announced at the 2018 American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Austin, Texas, that they had put human iPS cells into sheep embryos that had been engineered not to produce a pancreas. But the hybrid embryos, grown for 28 days, contained very few human cells, and nothing resembling organs. This is probably because of the genetic distance between humans and sheep, says Nakauchi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This same workings are occurring in all countries including United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Jun Wu, who researches human\u2013animal chimaeras at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas,  It doesn\u2019t make sense to bring human\u2013animal hybrid embryos to term using evolutionarily distant species such as pigs and sheep because the human cells will be eliminated from host embryos early on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">China<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A secret lab in China is making human-monkey chimeras. This was done to circumvent legal issues in US and Spain.  This fruition came into being back in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"375\" height=\"375\" src=\"http:\/\/infobymattcole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/fx1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/infobymattcole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/fx1.jpg 375w, https:\/\/infobymattcole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/fx1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/infobymattcole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/fx1-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/infobymattcole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/fx1-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We used two chimeric-competent rat ESC lines, DAC2 and DAC8 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/cell\/fulltext\/S0092-8674(16)31752-4#bib25\">Li et\u00a0al., 2008<\/a>). We labeled both lines with a fluorescent marker, humanized kusabira orange (hKO), for cell tracking and injected them into mouse blastocysts. Following embryo transfer (ET) into surrogate mouse mothers, both DAC2 and DAC8 lines gave rise to live rat-mouse chimeras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">China also has experimented heavily mixing human genes (intelligence related) into macaque monkeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>In 2014, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jneurosci.org\/content\/34\/48\/16153.abstract\">scientists created mice<\/a> with human astrocyte cells\u2014non-neuronal brain cells that make up over half the brain and bolster neural signaling. Compared to mouse astrocytes, humans are up to 20 times larger and carry 100 times more connections, meaning that they can better coordinate the brain\u2019s signals for processing information. The hybrids <em>were<\/em> smarter: when challenged with a standard memory test they performed at least four times better than normal mice, a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/dn26639-the-smart-mouse-with-the-half-human-brain\/\">whopping effect<\/a>.\u201d<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/singularityhub.com\/2019\/08\/13\/wait-what-the-first-human-monkey-hybrid-embryo-was-just-created-in-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Source (opens in a new tab)\">Source<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ethical Side of it<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doctor \u00c1ngel Raya, the director of the Barcelona Regenerative Medicine Center, explains that experiments with chimeras face \u201cethical barriers.\u201d \u201cWhat happens if the stem cells escape and form human neurons in the brain of the animal? Would it have consciousness? And what happens if these stem cells turn into sperm cells?\u201d he asks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The red line has always been at 14 days gestation.
