However, what exactly is critical thinking? Have we, as the generation before, failed our youth in teaching the art of critical thinking?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mattcole.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Critical-Thinking-Skills.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-142650\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Critical Thinking?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Critical thinking can be seen  as having two components: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1) a set of information and belief generating  and processing skills, and <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2) the habit, based on intellectual  commitment, of using those skills to guide behavior. [<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Source (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.criticalthinking.org\/pages\/defining-critical-thinking\/766\" target=\"_blank\">Source<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This two-fold definition can also be summarized as acquiring information, and applying action based on the provided information. In order to apply the valuable actions, the information must be solid or true. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally,  critical thinking is to make logical judgments that are well-thought out and are made after analysing the facts carefully.  [<a href=\"https:\/\/stoichabits.com\/stoicism-and-the-development-of-critical-thinking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Source (opens in a new tab)\">Source<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet, today we can see all our information is filtered through bias, a desired narrative, or missing all together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More importantly, the true information  or facts are hard to reach today and many lost the skills to acquire solid information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mattcole.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/stopthink.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-142649\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Methods or Steps in Critical Thinking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We need to identify some of the methods to critical thinking, and understand how to apply them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are commonly five steps in critical thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> 1. Identify a Question<br>2. Gather Data, Research Multiple Sources<br>3. Analyze the Data<br>4. Make a Decision\/ Conclusion<br>5. Publish or Present <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While these steps seem obvious and simple, many of us skip steps 2 and 3. Additionally, many of us allow others give us step 1, without thinking about it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> Step One &#8211;  Identify a Question  <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without realizing it, step one is crucial. How we frame or construct our question will determine our research.  In the scientific method, one must make an observation first, then ask the question. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How we observe, identifing the observation will help us ask the critical questions. If we allow someone else to frame that question, control is already in place to steer the narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step two &#8211;   Gather Data, Research Multiple Sources <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gather data from multiple sources is becoming harder today. Yes, we have the advantage of the Internet, extrapolating data from multiple websites. However, when we consider six corporations own all of United States media, we can see the control. [<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Source (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/these-6-corporations-control-90-of-the-media-in-america-2012-6\" target=\"_blank\">Source<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore we need to reach outside the confines of the easy access, and this takes time.  Attempt to pull in statistical data, printed data, as well as your online data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step three &#8211;  Analyze the Data <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now we have gathered our resources, we need to review our data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> As you review your data, you may find you have the exact data you need,  but more likely, you might need to revise your original question or  collect more data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step four &#8211;  Make a Decision\/ Conclusion <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I came across an interesting article conveying conclusions are not decisions. They go on to say, &#8221; Only one right conclusion exists and we must draw it from the data by using logical reasoning and technical knowledge&#8221; and  &#8220;a conclusion can be \u2018right\u2019 or \u2018wrong\u2019, (2+2=5), but not \u2018Good\u2019 or \u2018Bad\u2019. A decision can be \u2018Good\u2019 or \u2018Bad\u2019, but not \u2018right\u2019 or \u2018wrong &#8221; [<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"S (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.abolish-power.org\/DecisionsVSconclusions.html\" target=\"_blank\">Source]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The point is, we need proper analysis of our data to make a sound conclusion.
