Adapt Your Environment

Adapt Your Environment

Over the weekend, I was watching HGTV’s show Hot Mess House. Cassandra Aarssen, who goes by Cass, helps identify the person’s organization type, then provides the environment and tools to assist them in organizing. This fascinated me for two reasons.

  1. The fact I am not good at keeping the house organized and wanted to learn more and,
  2. she uses the individual’s personality and psychology to first identify the type, then teach them accordingly.

Not surprisingly, each of my family members are different and makes some sense why we conflict in how we arrange and organize. Regardless, Cass made the statement, “We have to adapt to you, you don’t have to adapt to your environment.”

This resonated with me because, while we have the tools and technology to change our environment to our personal needs, we still see education settings push the individual to adapt to those settings. It’s a choice of individualism needs over group think. This style goes beyond education settings to workplace and other areas.

Rather than attempting to understand the individual, and help that individual grow, today’s society forces the individual into a group to mirror others.

What I propose is for the individual to first understand their own way they learn, organize, and then change their personal environment to function accordingly.

We can then communicate outside to others in a mutually agreed behavior. But let the individual remain individual and thrive.
