Writing is a means to learn critical thinkging? Catching a video involving critical thinking with Jordan Peterson was a good find. Within the video, he conveys the best method to learn critical thinking is to have strong writing skills. I was immediately interested.

Rummaging around the internet, I managed to finally find the rubric. This provides a good outline on writing stronger.

The steps are as follow:

  • Editing and Arranging of Sentences Within Paragraphs
  • Reordering the Paragraphs
  • Generating a New Outline
  • Repeat

The primary reason to write an essay is so that the writer can formulate and organize an informed, coherent and sophisticated set of ideas about something important.

An essay is not a blog post, stipulating on ideas or feelings. Rather a concise message, with clarity, and citations to back up your findings. It forces the writer to answer all the possible questions posed on the content.

This forces the writer to consider many, if not all, angles and possible alternative views and answer them accordingly.

This process posed is time-consuming and daunting. However, it is also necessary to truly create a genuiune essay, while building on the critical skills.

Best way to learn Critical Thinking is learn to write.
