True Knowledge is to Know Nothing

True Knowledge = Knowing Nothing

“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”

Listen to the Episode

Socrates may have said this in jest, but true wisdom goes beyond knowledge and understanding. Wisdom is the quality of good judgement, experience and knowledge. This takes time. To have true wisdom, even more time is required.

When you consider the many subjects, and diversity of everything, no individual can grasp the full understanding. I think this concept of too much to full understand anything is what he is conveying.

Today, we are so constrained, we don’t have time to grapple the complex issues, much less gain true wisdom on simple subjects.

At the end of the day, we must accept not only do we have a lack of true knowledge, we lack the ability for true wisdom. Socrates took the time and effort to ruminate this and came to understand true wisdom is the acceptance of knowing nothing.
